Garland County is located in the Ouachita Mountains and was formed in 1873 and named for Augustus H. Garland, Governor of Arkansas, U.S. Senator and President Grover Cleveland's Attorney General.

The County's Natural beauty includes the Ouachita mountains and several  scenic lakes.  Lake Ouachita is the State's largest man-made lake and many other recreational attractions are located in Garland County.

The Garland County Courthouse was built in 1905.
